The Cornish Pasty |
(Back to Hands off our pasties)
The table below gives nutritional values for several nutrients in several pasties.
Note that several of the data sets originate from America .....
The first column regarding Ginsters gives figures for a whole pasty. The second column gives figures for a 100 gram portion. The third column is also regarding a Ginsters product but from an American web site (Calorie-Count.com, part of The New York Times Company).
The fourth column, the Supermarket Guru Golden Bee Cornish Pasty (California), contains carrots and gravy but the gravy and salt are not in the analysis, as the footnote indicates.
The last column is based on a pasty of undisclosed weight on Meals For You - presumably one of four made to that recipe and no doubt comparable to a "standard" sized pasty, but made with pork.
The figures in blue are comparable.

Footnote regarding Supermarket Guru pasty - This analysis does not include salt, pepper, gravy and garnishes. It assumes use of 95% lean ground beef.
Saturated fat varies 5.9 - 7.5 g (27% greater than the 5.9 g example).
Disparity in sugar content from 1 to 3.5 grams (probably of lesser importance).
Disparity between dietary fibre from 0.42 to 1.9 grams.
Protein will vary with precise meat amount and quality.
Salt content (important re. blood pressure, heart and stroke potential) is equal in two analyses of Ginsters pasties, but the figure of 95 mg and 0.04 g for the Supermarket Guru pasty does not include the salt etc (see the footnote above).
The figures above are presented in good faith that the original web pages are accurate. Providing they are correct then there is evidence that pasties are complete meals in themselves .....
